Questo modello di Commodore 64 viene prodotto per rilanciarlo sul mercato dopo alcuni anni dal suo debutto con un restyling del case per renderlo più lineare con il nuovo Commodore 128 . La linea più sottile meno bombata, l'abbandono del classico case biconcavo e l'introduzione del nuovo colore bianco panna allinea il nuovo Commodore 64 ai nuovi hardware di casa Commodore. Possiamo riassumere che il Commodore 64C è stata una mossa di marketing per questo modello che nel 1986 aveva già segnato la storia.
In realtà delle piccole modifiche interne ci sono state. Le schede madri sono leggermente diverse e portano modifiche al chip audio e video:
